A few years ago, we stumbled upon this group of school desks in the Bisti Badlands in Northwest New Mexico. The desks were sitting on a concrete pad that once was the floor of a Navaho chapter house gymnasium, apparently burned down a few years prior. Seven photos were used to produce this HDR image. The image was stark and strange, set against the harsh Bisti desert and crisp blue sky. I was caught up in creating the photo after that trip and have strangely found that the photo continues to appeal to me. Perhaps that is due to my early career days as a teacher. Or perhaps it is due to the juxtaposition of desolation and beauty.
